'Rehabilitation' Options.

Entering a rehab is something which many illicit drug users contemplate at one time or another. If you think this might be the option which you are looking for, there are quite a few good rehabs to choose from around Australia. There are several in Canberra, with some specialising in youth, adult, family, etc.

Canberra's two biggest and oldest rehabs are Karralika (run by Karralika Programs inc.) and Arcadia House (run by DIRECTIONS Health Services)

ATODA, the ACT's peak AOD body, has a directory HERE which lists all of the ACT's rehabs and other AOD services.

Please take note: these services are NOT run by CAHMA.

KARRALIKA

Karralika Theraputic Community provides up to 12 months of residential rehabilitation care, within a theraputic community setting, for single adults and couples with alcohol and other drug dependencies. Education, recreational activities, life skills and accredited training are provided. Counselling and access to specialised services from other agencies is available. Support can be provided to parents who do not have custody of their children. Children, family members and support people can visit residents. Some prescription medications are allowed and residents can now access pharmacotherapies such as methadone and buprenorphine while staying at Karralika. Personal items are searched upon entry to the program.

Karralika is situated in the Tuggeranong region of Canberra (the location is confidential), and admission is arranged via telephone on (02) 6292 2733 (between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday). Cost is 81% of your income. Waiting time varies considerably, but support is offered to people on the waiting list.

Please take note: these services are NOT run by CAHMA.
